Ethics, Values & Engineering Profession tests the candidate's understanding of professional ethics, moral decision-making, and the societal responsibilities of engineers. Ethics is a compulsory component of IES Prelims Paper I. Questions are scenario-based, testing understanding of professional ethics, codes of conduct of the Institution of Engineers (India), conflict of interest situations, safety obligations, and societal responsibilities. 8–12 questions typically appear from this section, and they are relatively scoring with conceptual clarity.
ESE Prelims Paper I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) carries 200 marks with 2 hours duration. It consists of 100 questions covering Engineering Mathematics, General Principles of Design & Drawing, Energy & Environment, Ethics, ICT, Materials Science, Project Management, and Standards & Quality Practices.
